In 1676 the Good Ship Kent sailed from England up the Delaware River with Quaker families bound for Burlington, New Jersey. Some of the family names included Parry, Thomas, Lippincott and Taylor. The streets of Riverton derive their names from descendents of the Good Ship Kent.
The Riverton Improvement Companywas oganized by ten founders in1852 with land purchased from Joseph Lippincott. The former land owner in the late 18th century was Caleb Atkinson. Riverton was governed by Cinnaminson until 1893.
