The October newsletter issue features a story about the Philadelphia Watch Case Company in Riverside, N.J.and it's ominous legacy in the history of American capitalism and the organized labor movement. Our May issue features Pat Solin's article on Internet Geneaology Research, Riverton resident U.S. Ambassador Lloyd C. Griscom and an article by HSR President Priscilla Taylor on Riverton's Wright Family residence at the Professor Cleveland home.  The January issue highlights the contributions of seven generations of the Biddle family in Riverton and the popular novels set in Riverton by Mary Biddle Fitler.

The Historical Society of Riverton is proud to have John McCormick as 
editor of the Gaslight News. John is a HSR board member and was an
educator at the Riverton Public School  where he taught history from
1974-2009. John is an avid collector of historic images and has long  dedicated his talents to the preservation of local history in New Jersey.

Mary Biddle Fitler (on the right) was born in Riverton and featured our town as a backdrop for her "Reddy" children's adventure book series. Born into a prominent Riverton family Mary married Nathan Myers Fitler the son of Philadelphia Mayor Edwin Fitler. Mary & her husband N. Myers Fitler lived at their home known as 'Graystone' on 109 Bank Avenue in Riverton. 
Riverton was home to Celement Acton Griscom, shipping magnate, whose son Llyod C. Griscom became U.S. Ambassador to Italy and consul in Japan where he met novelist Jack London, "Call of the Wild". Also in this issue and article on researching your family's Genealogy with Pat Solin.
T.J. Zurbrugg brought the Philadelphia Watch Case Company to Riverside and with it propserity and controversy. Zurbrugg is known locally for his endownment of the Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital.
